CHRIS FUNK
Musician and producer best known as a member of the Portland, Oregon, indie rock band The Decemberists, Chris Funk is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, pedal steel, piano, violin, dobro, hurdy-gurdy, mandolin, saxophone, the theremin and many other instruments.
Funk joined The Decemberists after meeting Colin Meloy at a solo show Meloy was performing. He has been a member of the band since its formation, appearing on every Decemberists record since. Funk most commonly contributes guitar, pedal steel, and mandolin tracks to the band’s songs. He also known from his TV appearances as host of CNN’s Funk Plus One and his guitar duel with Peter Frampton on The Colbert Report and as the curator of the folk stage at the Newport Folk Festival.
Funk has expanded his production work in recent years. With the launch of Halfling Studios in Portland, he has produced records for Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Kyle Craft, Naked Giants, The Builders and The Butchers, Langhorne Slim, Latyrx, Red Fang and others.
