Originally from London and based in Bristol UK, Ali Chant is an English record producer, engineer and guitar player. Starting his career as guitarist and songwriter of Bristol band Actual Size in the 00’s, Ali and the band were signed to Gut Records. The demos which led to the band’s signing were recorded by Ali and the group went on to spend a portion of their recording advance building their own studio in Bristol. Based in a vaulted Georgian basement in the St Pauls district, Toybox Studios became one of the most popular independent studio’s in town.

Notable artists Ali worked with at Toybox and elsewhere include PJ Harvey, Mark Ronson,  Perfume Genius, Youth Lagoon, Soccer Mommy, KT Tunstall, Gruff Rhys, M Ward, Aldous Harding and Giant Sand. After a number of years engineering for producers such as John Parish, Adrian Utley and Tim Friese-Greene, Ali has became an in demand producer and mixer in his own right.

Ali Chant’s main instruments are guitar, bass, vocals, percussion and keyboards and is renowned for working with predominantly analogue equipment. He still occasionally plays with Adrian Utley’s guitar orchestra and appears as a musician on various projects.
